European Based U.S. Business and Immigration Counsel
Beau Russell is an American immigration attorney with over 13 years of experience dedicated exclusively to U.S. immigration and business law. Licensed in California, Washington D.C., and before the United States Supreme Court, he operates from Copenhagen, Denmark — a vantage point that gives him distinctive expertise in European consular practices and the unique challenges facing individuals and businesses navigating U.S. immigration from abroad.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Russell has successfully guided thousands of clients through the U.S. business landscape and immigration system — from individual families and skilled professionals to entrepreneurs and publicly traded multinational corporations. His reputation is built on precision, strategic thinking, and a solutions-oriented approach to even the most time-sensitive and high-stakes cases.
Career & Background
Mr. Russell began his legal career serving underserved and indigent individuals at the McGeorge School of Law Community Legal Services Immigration Clinic — an experience that shaped his commitment to accessible, high-quality legal counsel. Following law school, he practiced in California, where he handled complex immigration litigation before the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), represented clients in merits hearings and asylum interviews before USCIS, and appeared in criminal proceedings at California Superior Court in Sacramento and Yuba County.
In 2015, Mr. Russell relocated to Copenhagen to join a leading U.S.-Scandinavian law practice, where he built and led the firm’s U.S. immigration practice. He subsequently founded Russell Legal to serve clients throughout Europe and beyond who require focused, experienced U.S. immigration counsel with an intimate understanding of European consular environments.
U.S. Business and Immigration Practice
Mr. Russell’s immigration practice covers the full spectrum of U.S. nonimmigrant and immigrant matters, with particular depth in:
- Business immigration: E-2 investor visas, H-1B specialty occupation visas, L-1 intracompany transfers, O-1 extraordinary ability visas, and J-1 cultural exchange visas
- Family-based immigration: Immediate relative petitions, family preference categories, adjustment of status, and consular processing — including direct consular filings at U.S. embassies throughout Europe
- Permanent residency (green cards): Employment-based and family-based immigrant visa petitions, including EB-1 extraordinary ability cases
- Expedites and complex cases: Emergency consular processing, expedite requests, appeals, and motions challenging denials before USCIS, the Department of State, and the Administrative Appeals Office
- Waivers of inadmissibility: Strategic representation in cases involving prior visa denials, criminal issues, or evidentiary deficiencies
- Navigating U.S. Business: Counsel on the establishment of U.S. entities including selection, commercial contracts, employee onboarding including international secondments, and other general strategic advice
A hallmark of Mr. Russell’s practice is his integrated approach: rather than addressing immigration in isolation, he works with clients to align their immigration strategy with broader considerations including corporate structuring, workforce planning, and regulatory compliance — ensuring that immigration decisions support long-term business and personal objectives.
Professional Leadership & Industry Engagement
Mr. Russell is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and currently serves as Co-Vice Chair of the Consular Liaison Committee for the AILA Regional District Council (RDC). In this role, he engages directly with the U.S. Department of State on consular policies and procedures affecting practitioners and their clients across Europe and beyond — bringing a practitioner’s perspective to the policy conversations that shape how immigration law is applied in the field.
He speaks regularly on international business and immigration law panels, including at AILA’s RDC EMEA conferences in Copenhagen and other major professional gatherings. His participation in these forums reflects a genuine commitment to advancing best practices across the profession and staying at the forefront of developments in consular processing, State Department policy, and U.S. immigration law more broadly.
